Disaster Preparation and Plans

This blog is dedicated to inform people about the cause and effects of a disaster, and the purpose of disaster risk reduction. Our most important mission is to encourage students to become an advocate of disaster awareness and preparedness, and help mitigate damages brought by a disaster in their respective communities. If you also want to help, join the Disaster Risk Reduction global advocacy now!

"When there is a natural hazard, children are one of the most vulnerable groups."

The earthquake in Pakistan in October 2005 - where more than 16,000 children died as schools collapsed - or the recent mudslides caused by floods on Leyte Island in the Philippines - with 200 students buried alive - are just two tragic examples of why more needs to be done to protect our children before disaster strikes. -Salvano Briceño (Director of ISDR and board member of IRHA)
